Stellmacher, Wagner und Wagnermeister (wheelwright and cartwright master), born on 22 October 1818 in Buchthalen, Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Son of Conrad Metzger and Ursula Müller. He married Anna Barbara Spengler on 17 February 1848 in Schaffhausen. On 15.06.1855 he petitioned the Buchthalen municipal council for immigration assistance to Brazil of 600 francs. On 29.10.1855 they boarded the steamship Santos Packet in Hamburg, arriving at the port of São Francisco do Sul on 31.12.1855, proceeding from there to the Dona Francisca Colony (Joinville). He and Barbara Spengler had seven children, among them Johann Friedrich Metzger (1858). Barbara died on 16 May 1864 in Joinville during childbirth. Franz remarried, to Barbara Wanner, in 1870.
